A 20-year-old Salcha man was rescued Wednesday afternoon after falling while mountain climbing near Fairbanks, according to Alaska State Troopers.
A Thursday AST dispatch says Fairbanks troopers received two reports at about 1:15 p.m. that Jason Zesiger had fallen in an area about 1.5 miles from a trailhead at the Angel Rocks recreation area. Zesiger sustained head, leg and hip injuries in the fall, and his rescue was further complicated by communications difficulties in the area.
First responders hiked in and arrived at the scene at about 3:45 p.m. Zesiger's injuries were evaluated by Rescue personnel he was transported via rescue litter to the trailhead.
A waiting Steese Volunteer Fire Department ambulance then took Zesiger to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
