A man pleaded guilty today in Fairbanks' federal court to a misdemeanor charge of assaulting U. S. military personnel performing official duties.
Daniel Lee Slayden of North Pole was accused of shooting fireworks at Army helicopters flying low over his house on night flights.
Court papers say Slayden was irritated by helicopters from Fort Wainwright, flying about 1,000 feet above the ground in the area of his home.
He reportedly admitted that he fired mortar-based fireworks near the helicopters and pointed a spotlight at them.
Under the plea agreement, Slayden is to be placed on three years probation and fined $12,500.
