FAIRBANKS-The Lathrop football team aims to bounce back this weekend against their week two opponent.
The Kardinals of Kenai Central will be in Lathrop Stadium this Saturday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff for their second straight road game.
Kenai lost to Juneau-Douglas 28-15 last week. Both teams are looking for their first wins of the season.
Lathrop was roughed up 47-14 by Bartlett last Saturday. The Mutes were shorthanded, assistant coach Luke Balash was out because he just had a new child and there were some ineligible players. Now at full strength they're betting on a better performance.
"We can't dwell on the past game. It's in the past. No we have to learn from it," senior safety Ryan Perdue said. "That's a difference between a great team. That's the difference between the old Lathrop and the new Lathrop. Old Lathrop would go downhill from here. New Lathrop with this coaching staff and our great teammates we're going to bounce back, get ready for Kenai, study them, respect our opponents and we're going to bounce back and hopefully pull out a win."
"Now that we're together as a unit, an army of 11, we're playing well, our scheme is simple. You're going to see a big difference because we have the right people in the right place now," Lathrop head coach Rusty Ham said.
