A look ahead to the Labor Day sports weekend

FAIRBANKS-Here is a look ahead to sports for you and yours this weekend.

The first high school swimming action of the year takes place at the Hamme Pool this Friday at 6 pm and Saturday at 11 am for the Lathrop Invitational.

Tomorrow at 9 am Northstar Golf Club is the site of the inaugural Homes Four Our Troops.org Ttournament. Proceeds help build homes with special needs for wounded warriors. 28 teams have signed up so far.

For high school cross country the Interior Invitational takes place this Saturday at the Birch Hill Rec Area. The girls race is at 11 and boys run at 1:45.

The Second annual Fairbanks Triathlon starts at noon Saturday at the Chena Lakes Rec Area. There will be a 500 meter swim, 20 mile bike and 3.1 mile run.

Also on Monday, it's a holiday run, the Labor Day 5k. It starts at 12:30 pm on the southeast corner of Pioneer Park.

Friday at 6:30 the GFRA will be slated for their races at the Mitchell Raceway.

The Alaska Nanook volleyball team is in Hawaii for four matches for the weekend. They open play tonight against Hawaii-Hilo. You can listen to games here --http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/uaf.portal#

The West Valley and North Pole volleyball teams will in the Chugiak Tournament this weekend which features Colony, Palmer, South and Dimond.

Delta Junction, Hutchison and West Valley's JV teams will be in the Cordova Tip-Off Tournament this weekend as well.

Eielson plays at Seward this Saturday afternoon and North Pole is on the road against Juneau Douglas. The Patriots and Crimson Bears will play at 8 pm.
