Local race tracks opening soon

FAIRBANKS, AK-You know its spring and summer time once you start seeing cars coming out of the garage, get washed and stroll down the streets for all to see. Or those cars coming out to get dirty on the Mitchell Raceway dirt track.

That's right the Greater Fairbanks Racing Association is planning to have their opening night of racing this weekend starting tomorrow. The pit gate scheduled to open as early as 3pm tomorrow where there will be tech inspections. The opening will depend on the track and pit conditions but things do look promising with the weather we've been having.

There are eight classes that race on the Mitchelll Raceway everything from Modified, to sprint, to gladiator classes.

Last season Colby Hill won the sprint car points championship. Scott Sluka won the modified class points title, Bill Reames was the street stock champion. In B-stock John Clarkson was the champ. Mike Small was big winning the dollar stock title and Joseph Heath won the 2012 mini bomber points title.

The Thunder on the Tundra. Races will start at 7 pm this season and gates open at 6.

The North Pole Speedway will also be opening up soon. Now on the initial schedule the season opener was going to be today but due that crazy long winter the opening day kick-off party will be June first from 11 to 4 pm at the Race Track.

One June 4th there will be a rookie only practice then the next day will be a general practice day. The first race day will be June 6th which is also Military Appreciation Day.

The paved quarter mile oval race track off of Badger Road which features karts, legends, baby grands, and and Bandorelos race classes will have its first national qualifier July 18th.
