Today marks Easter and the spirit of giving was certainly in the air.
Volunteers from the local church, Immaculate Conception, gathered to make a special lunch at their soup kitchen to feed the less fortunate and homeless.
Coupled with Fort Wainwright Soldiers, up to 250 homeless passed through the line and were served lunch.
One of the volunteers, when asked, said they make up to 500 pancakes to make sure plenty are available and the folks coming in get served and feel fully fed.
Each holiday the staff and volunteers prepare a special meal for the less fortunate and make sure to begin preparations weeks in advance and this huge lunch was no different.
The Youth Group from Northern Lights Chapel on Fort Wainwright were also there, and one of the youth said, "I like giving back, it helps to teach us to be grateful for what we have."
While dining in one homeless man named Sam told the Newscenter, "I like having a place to go and people to spend Easter with."
And that is what the season of Easter is all about.
The Newscenter will have more on this story tomorrow on the Fairbanks Evening News and Newscenter Final.
