A group of accounting students from UAF are among the top finalists in a national competition, sponsored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
The four person team, called the “Nanook Accountants” entered the 2012 AICPA Accounting Competition.
Their task was to offer solutions to national financial concerns within the national defecit, Social Security and with Income Taxes.
One of their ideas, to implement financial literacy curriculums throughout grade school and secondary school systems, helped their team become one of the top 20 finalists.
Now, they are seeking votes from the online community to be among the top three teams selected to compete in Washington D.C. for a chance to present their financial solutions and to win a large cash prize.
Team members say their common background has helped them succeed, so far, in the competition.
