Lathrop's long time cross country to leave

FAIRBANKS-A bit of somber note for Lathrop. Longtime cross country coach Kevin Brinegar will be leaving. Brinegar is stepping down as head coach. He'll be moving with his wife to Boise, Idaho. His wife received a job there.

Brinegar has been the cross country coach for 15 years. He took over in 1998. During his tenure the Lathrop girls went fourth at state in 2011 and 2012. Megan Edic won the state race in 2011. The boys team finished 5th in 2011 for their highest state finish under Brinegar.

Brinegar has taken a team to state in 10 of the last 11 seasons. Last year the Lathrop girls won the Regions VI title and the boys were second. The girls went fifth at state and the boys finished in ninth place.

Jeff Hebard has been highlighted as a possible replacement.
