Lathrop sweeps at Joe T Court, Eielson splits at home

FAIRBANKS-In MAC basketball last night Lathrop and North Pole locked horns. Both squads struggling in the first quarter but not Jaden Whiteside. The freshman hit a buzzer beater giving Lathrop an 11-7 lead. He had five points in the first stanza.

The Patriots struck back in the second quarter with Buck Nolan. Nolan finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds, His and-1 play brought North Pole within two points and they would tie it 21 all. But Lathrop answered with 7-0 run and held 31-24 at the break.

Lathrop shutout North Pole in the 3rd not allowing single point-a 16-0 quarter. Terrell Ford and Kyle Carlson got 12 points a-piece. Cole Berner added 11 and Lathrop goes on to win 61-36 and are 2-0 in the MAC.

In the girls game the Malemutes jumped out to a 15-5 lead to start. Brooke Lizotte had a game high 17 points for the Mutes.

The Patriots came back a bit in the second quarter with Willow Stewart leading the way with 14 points it as 19-12 after her bucket.

Lathrop applied the pressure in the second half, got some easy baskets and spread the ball around. Kimmi Duffield added 11 points and Lathrop wins 62-40 over North Pole.

Eielson split with Monroe last night over at Ben Eielson.

In boys the Rams are now 13-0 after their 81-15 over the Ravens. Michael Neville had a game high 13 points. Monroe has now 33 straight games.

The Eielson girls got a win 45-42 over Monroe despite 34 turnovers.

Larissa Franklin had a double-double 12 points and 14 boards for Eielson. Asia Doe added 12 and nine. Savannah Mapp scored 11 for the Rams.
