Lathrop routs Eielson in softball opener, West Valley wins

FAIRBANKS-Last night four high school softball teams had their season openers at the South Davis Fields. Last year's champions clashed. The MAC champion Eielson Ravens and Railbelt champion Lathrop Malemutes faced off in a non-conference game.

It was all Lathrop in this one the Malemutes were up 7-0 after a grand slam from Selena Maxwell her first career home run. Kimi Duffield also hit here first career home run.

Lathrop continued to score in the first and second innings. Kacey Duffield also got in on the home run action in the second inning sending out her 20th career homer. Lathrop was up 12-0 after two innings. Kacey Duffield and Kelly Regan, in her first game combined on the shutout from the pitching circle. Six Ks and two hits between them. Lathrop wins their season opener 16-0 in three innings.

In the other non-conference season opener West Valley took on North Pole. The Wolfpack manufactured runs early on this one getting a 7-0 at the end of the first inning.
They led 10-0 at one point.

North Pole's Paige Churma had a rbi single to prevent the shutout and the Patriots tried to come back late but the margin was too big and West Valley wins their season opener 10-4 over North Pole.
