Lathrop loses by one goal in state tournament opener

WASILLA-Today Lathrop had a valiant effort against a team that outscored them 11-0 this season. In the ASAA First National Cup tournament opener at noon Lathrop lost 2-1 to South.

There was one goal in each period in this one.

Lathrop's Alex Parker tied the game 1-1 in the second period after a Daniel Widmar goal for South in the first period. Widmar scored 27 seconds into the game. But in the third Jared Cruz's short-handed goal proved to be the game winner.

The Malemutes will face the Soldotna tomorrow morning. Sohi lost a tough one goal game as well to Chugiak 2-1 in triple overtime.
