Lathrop goes to the limit with North Pole, get first home win

FAIRBANKS-Last night Lathrop's Joe T Court had a first. The Malemutes hosted the North Pole Patriots in a MAC conference volleyball game.

Lathrop was about their business in the first set. They led 19-10 lead and captured the opening set 25-16. In the second set Lathrop rallied go up 2-0 with a 25-22 win. Deshaunta West had a monster game with 15 blocks 12 of them were solo for Lathrop.

The Patriots came back up 11-3 in the third set and won that 25-12. The momentum continued with senior Kayla Ching leading all players with 11 kills and hitting at 33 percent. Patriots win 25-16 to force a fifth and final set.

Lathrop put it on the line. The service line. Song Ebbesen served well, the senior setter served 8 straight points to start the final set giving Lathrop an 8-0 lead. North Pole climbed back to make it 13-11 late but Ebbesen served the last two decisive points including the game winning ace. Lathrop wins 3-2 with a 15-11 win in the fifth.

It's the first win on Joe T Court for the Malemutes. The floor in Lathrop's gym, which was being dedicated to late Joe Tremarello was being renovated last volleyball season. It was also the first MAC win of the season for the Malemutes who are now 2-3 and 1-1 in conference.
