Lathrop and West Valley start state baseball tournament run Friday

FAIRBANKS, AK-Now our local high school baseball squads will be trying to bring a state title back to the Interior. The closest team to do that was Lathrop back in 2002 getting second place.

The ASAA First National Bank Alaska State baseball championship starts this Thursday and Lathrop, the number one seed of the Mid Alaska Conference with an 8-2 record will get South Anchorage at 4 o'clock. South did when a state title back in 2011 and come in as the two seed from the Cook Inlet Conference.

In the last game on Thursday the number one Cook Inlet team, the Service Cougars will face our West Valley Wolfpack. As you know West Valley is in due to the tiebreaker advantage based on runs allowed against conference opponents over North Pole.

Juneau-Douglas comes in as the favorite. The defending Crimson Bears also won titles in 2008 and 2010. The Ketchikan Kings were last year's runner-up. If Lathrop advances they will play the Ketchikan-Kodiak winner. If West Valley wins they will play the Colony-Juneau Douglas winner.
