FAIRBANKS-Now that week 6 in high school football is complete here are the latest polls.
Service (5-1) is on top after coming back from 19 pts down to upend the defending champs, South, 37-36 on Saturday. South (4-2) is now third in the ASBN poll. Palmer (5-1) is second. Chugiak (4-2) is fourth and West (4-2) is fifth. The Cook Inlet has four out of five teams in the top five.
At the medium and small schools level there is not a lot of change.
Sohi is still number 1 at 6-0. Kenai is also is 6-0 and are second. They are the last two undefeated teams in the state. Juneau (5-1) is third and North Pole (4-1) is fourth. Nikiski (4-2) is fifth making their first appearance in the polls this season.
Sticking with high school football the Monroe Rams face another endurance test. A short week.
After Friday's 51-8 win over Barrow they will face visiting Voznesenka tomorrow at 6 p.m. on Kiwanis Field.
Voz is in its first season playing football in the Greatland. The Cougars are from Fritz Creek which is near Homer. The Cougars are coming off a 46-6 to Nikiski and are 2-2 in the conference.
The Rams are 3-1 in conference and have earned a playoff spot with their win over Barrow. Monroe has 15 on their roster, had 13 coming into the Barrow game but finished with 11 players.
