Large group of Interior swimmers and divers to compete at state

FAIRBANKS-30 Interior swimmers and divers will compete for the state championships in Juneau this weekend. 17 of them are from West Valley.

The Wolfpack will send eight boys including Richard Chen and Luis Marquez who both won four Region VI titles. The girls team had nine qualify for state including multiple region titlist Cassidy Heaton and Zoe Thorsen. Emily Shipman qualified for diving.

North Pole had 11 athletes qualify. Three boys will compete including Kelsey Nore the 500 free region champ. On the girls side eight will compete for state titles including Martha Hood who is top three in the state in the 50 free. Hannah Boatman who won the girls 100 back region title for North Pole will also be at states.

Joe Vonderbruggen will represet Hutchison at state in the 100 butterfly. Lathrop's Zach Campbell will be lone Malemute at state but he is ranked number one in boys 1 meter diving.

The state championships are continue through the weekend at Juneau High School.
