Chandlar Kemp and Julie Schwab captured top honors in the men's and women's division during Saturday's "Quadathlon" event that started on skis at UAF's
West Ridge, and ended with a one thousand yard swim in the Patty Center pool.
According to Brian Young, who called himself the "unofficial" race organizer, the Quadathlon began as an idea where a bunch of friends get together "for the fun of it all."
"It's not a sanctioned event," says Young. "It started as an idea among friends who love the sport, and it just went from there. We did it a couple years ago, then last
year could not due to the weather, but this year things held up very well, and here we are."
Simply put, participants in the "Quadathlon" begin skiing 5 kilomenters, run 4.2 kilometers, bike 13.5 kilometers, and finally swim a thousand yards.
"It's really alot of fun," says Young. "And it also gets us prepared for the (annual) "Break-up Tri" that takes place in May."
