Interesting storylines for last week of high school football

FAIRBANKS-This weekend is the last one for the high school football regular season and playoff seeding will be at stake. Tomorrow at 6 p.m. the no.4 medium school North Pole goes to no.4 large school Lathrop for the Mayor's Bowl.

Both teams are coming off big wins but the Patriots have outscored the Malemutes 175-37 in the last three meetings. However, Lathrop is not the same team, having clinched a playoff spot and will look to win homecoming to build momentum going into the postseason.

On Saturday West Valley hosts Colony at one o'clock. The Wolfpack could shake up seeding in the conference with a win. The Knights are number one in the Railbelt. Palmer is at Wasilla this weekend too. If the Warriors and Wolfpack win there will be number crunching going on because every team in the Railbelt will have a 2-2 conference record. The top three teams go to the playoffs.

On Saturday at 1 o'clock Monroe is at Nikiski. If the Rams win they will be tied with the Bulldogs at 5-1 in the Greatland conference.

Also on Saturday Eielson travels to Voznesenka to take on the Cougars in Fritz Creek at 5:30. A Ravens win will put them at 5-1 in the Greatland. If Rams and Ravens win there will be a three way tie for first in the Greatland. The top four teams will go. Voz and Barrow are vying for the fourth and final spot. Barrow plays at Valdez this week.
