Ignition Program Welcomes Freshmen

FAIRBANKS, Alaska- For most students in the borough, today was their last day of summer vacation, but ninth graders have fun activities planned for tomorrow.  As part of the "Ignition program," ninth graders will attend group activities, tour schools and practice class schedules. This year nearly 100 upper– class students will volunteer to help freshmen feel at home in their new schools. Superintendent Pete Lewis says the program allows teachers to meet students in a more relaxed atmosphere and he believes this is one reason why more students are graduating. Just a reminder, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders start school on Thursday.
