FAIRBANKS-The Fairbanks Ice Dogs will be on the road for their last series of 2013. They'll aslo be on the road before Christmas. They play those Brown Bears again. The same Brown Bears who snapped the Ice Dogs nine game winning streak last Saturday. The winning streak was the second longest in the NAHL.
The last time these teams played in Soldotna the Ice Dogs got a sweep outscoring Kenai 12-8. This could be a different series with the Brown Bears at full strength with players back from suspensions, a recent win and home ice.
But the Ice Dogs could win the ERA Cup outright with a sweep before the Christmas break. Fairbanks is up 7-1. A sweep would make them Midwest division leader over the Minnesota Wilderness as well.
The Ice Dogs are motivated to seal the deal.
"Focus is on Friday, preparing for that," Ice Dogs forward Hans Gorowsky said. "Taking it one game at a time I mean we'll see them again and again so it's important to us right now."
First year forward Yannick Vedel believes this bounce back series will come down to energy.
"If we work hard the goal will come theres a little bit more space up there so hopefully the skill this team will be on display a little bit again," Vedel said.
"It'll be a matter of us out preforming them or them out preforming us. We had a good week of practices this week and we expect our guys to be ready to go," Ice Dogs head coach Trevor Stewart said.
