High School tennis season on the horizon

FAIRBANKS-Football isn't the only season that's about to start up. High school tennis is not too far away for the Interior. The season is 12 days from now.

For the local teams it could be about West Valley again. Last season the Wolfpack finished 5th in the state but Jared Lees and Dana Raugust were top four in the boys and girls singles. They've been the best team to represent the Interior since a tennis state tile was awarded in 2007. There were runner-up that year and have finished fifth since then.

The Lemay's, Dana and Teryl were All-MAC picks for North Pole last year. Alex Jordan and James Kardash for the Lathrop Malemutes made the All-MAC team as well. The Wolfpack had seven All-MAC selections last year.

Here is a look at the upcoming season for high school tennis. After the scrimmages on August 16 the first matches will be on Tuesday August 20.

Lathrop will play Monroe at 3:15 pm. Eielson and Hutch will face off at the Don Ramras Tennis Courts across from Lathrop at 5:30 pm. Meanwhile West Valley and North Pole will take the court at North Pole at 5:00 pm.

Interior teams will travel to Anchorage for the Anchorage Invitational on the 23rd. The first varsity match play is September 7.
