High school hoops roundup for Thursday night

FAIRBANKS-For last night's high school hoops we start in 4A at North Pole. The West Valley girls were Ruthy Hebard due to injury but no Ruthy no problem.

Carlee Marques had a game high 19 points and Amber Smyzd added 12. North Pole cut it to six in the third Jasmine McCormick led the Patriots with 13 but West Valley would pull away for a 42-33 win.

In the boys contest the Patriots started on a 7-0 run. The play of the game was from Khalil Steward with a putback dunk. That had the place buzzing.

But West Valley was poised. Tyreece Washington nailed a three from the corner at the buzzer to halt the momentum from Steward's dunk to end the first half.

Daniel Hornbuckle led the way with a game high 22 points. Travon Brackett had 18 as well and West Valley wins 82-62.

In Boileau Hall the Monroe Rams played the Valdez Buccaneers. The Monroe girls were in this game as Andi Clark led the way with 11 points for Monroe.
Monroe had 19-16 lead in the second quarter but Valdez had the post players.

Marian Wamsley scored 9 of her 14 in the first half as the Bucs went up 25-21 at the break. Mesa Rohrer took over inside she had a game high 25 points leading the Bucs to a 64-44 win.

In the boys game more the Rams were hot nailing their first five shots.

Valdez got 15 pts from Caj Rohrer but Scooter Bynum had a game high 23 points and David Stepovich added 19 off the bench.

Monroe puts up buck on the Buccaneers winning 100-31.
