FAIRBANKS-Three high school hockey games happened in the Interior last night and two out of three Interior teams came away with wins.
LATHROP 4 EAST 3 F/OT
It was tied 1-1 after the first period but the East Anchorage Thunderbirds thought they had a sizable margin at the end of the second period. Jack Reynolds scored an unassited goal with 2:42 left in the second. Justin Beverlin had two goals for East and an assist on Justin Tapey's goal that occurred with 46 seconds left in the second. The short handed power play gave East a 3-1 lead. But Lathrop rallied forced overtime and won this game 4-3.
WEST VALLEY 9 EAGLE RIVER 0
After the first period Wolfpack led 5-0 over the Wolves. Eagle River was coming off a 4-0 shutout of Lathrop but they were no contest for the Wolfpack. Ethan Daniels and Logan Arpino added goals in the second period. The Wolfpack tacked on another two in third for the final margin. Lane Wood and Simon Keel combined for the shutout for West Valley. The Wolfpack face East today in the Big Dipper at 1:15 p.m.
KENAI 7 NORTH POLE 3
Sophomore Jimmy Culley started at goalie for North Pole. Nate O'Lena got the start for Kenai and both goalies had scoreless first periods. North Pole sophomore Dylan Latham made the first score of the game at the 12:58 mark of the second period.
Jacob Eubank got a dirty goal in front of the North Pole net as the puck defelected off his stick just 50 seconds later to tie the game. Then Daniel Volsky got behind the Cardinal net and passed to Wyatt Conrow for the go ahead score to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead.
Kenai answered quickly again. Less than a minute later Dalton Dosko finds Trevor Wagoner to tie the game up at 2-2. About four minutes later Kenai would gain the lead on a Dosko goal that was preceded by a Ross Hanson pass. Kenai had a 3-2 lead and would go on to win 7-3.
