FAIRBANKS-The Hutchison boys and girls basketball teams swept the titles at the Husky Shootout in Kotzebue.
In the boys game the Hawks won 58–46 over the New Stuyahok Eagles. Darren Silas recorded a double–double and his third straight 20 point game.The Hawks were up 25–15 at the half and kept the Eagles at bay the rest of the way.
In the girls championship the Hawks came back after trailing 19–16 at halftime to beat the Kotzebue Huskies 47–37.
Colleen Snyder hit six threes for a game high 22 points for the Huskies but Mimi Wood led the Hawks with 20 points despite playing with some early foul trouble to get the title.
In the Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic the interior teams ruled as the Monroe Rams and Lathrop Malemutes won the boys and girls tourneys.
Monroe runs the Palmer Moose 54–33.
Monroe held the Moose to 14 points in the first half which is third time the Rams have done that to an opponent this year.
David Stepovich, Scooter Bynum, Micheal Hale and Tyler Wells were placed on the all–tournament team.
For the Malemutes their 40–29 victory against Gig Harbor was their first 8 team tournament title in 8 years.
Jasmine White led Lathrop with 19 points. White, Elisha Talley and Ruthie Hebard were on the all–tournament team.
In the Doc Larson Roundball Classic the Wasilla Warriors still have the Lady Wolfpack's number. This title game was a rematch of the 4A state championship.
Wasilla won 71–36.
Hannah Mattson and Caitlun Brice had 11 and 10 points and were all–tournament team selections.
The Lathrop Malemutes lost in their final game finishing sixth in the Cactus Jam in Phoenix to Bergen Catholic out of New Jersey. The final was 63–42.
It was tied 25 all in the second but Bergen went on 14–0 run to take control.
Gabriel Cunningham led the Malemutes with 16 points and Lathrop finished in six place.
