High school basketball scores

FAIRBANKS-It was the opening weekend for the 2013-2014 Interior high school basketball season. Four the seven Interior schools were in action.

BOYS

MONROE 94 EIELSON 11 FINAL

RAMS WERE UP 29-0 AT THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER.

MCR-J. MCCOLLOUGH 16 POINTS (FIRST HALF), D. STEPOVICH 15 POINTS

EIE-A. GRIFFITH 6 POINTS

The Monroe Rams hosted the Eielson Ravens at Boileau. The Rams made a statement to say the least in this one. They led 29-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Jalon McCullough had 16 points in the first half. The Rams defense was just too much for Eielson.

Monroe wins 94-11.

In between the boys and girls varsity games the Rams honored beloved principal Vince Fantazzi and his wife Bev who has breast cancer.

Fantazzi was overwhelmed by the gesture and was appreciative of the love. He is retiring this week and will be moving to Arizona as his wife Bev receives treatment.

MALEMUTES LED 45-19 AT HALFTIME

The boys game preceded that and it was silent night at Joe T Court in honor longtime coach Joe Tremarello. The tenth point came from the free throw line as the crowd erupted and so did the Malemutes.

They led 45-19 at halftime. 11 different players scored as Lathrop wins their opener with ease 79-45.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

RAMS SURVIVE A BACK AND BACK FORTH GAME AND OVERCOME A WILD FINISH FOR THE WIN

MCR-A. CLARK 22 POINTS, M. HAJDUKOVICH 10 POINTS (TWO 3S)

EIE-K. BROWDER 21 POINTS

The game of the night was the Eielson and Monroe girls game. Both teams went back and forth neither squad had a lead bigger than 6. It was tied 34 going into the fourth quarter.

Katie Browder led Eielson with 21 points as Larissa Franklin and Evonne Johnson fouled out late.

Andi Clark, who had a game high 22 made the play of the game with Monroe down 47-48 with 26 seconds left. Off the inbounds play Clark stays with it after the initital miss underneath the basket and gets the And-1.

She missed the free throw but Monroe gets the steal and Maija Hajdukovich gets the bucket.She had 10 and Monroe is clutch in their 51-48 win.

DELTA 51 LATHROP 38

The girls team taking on the Delta Junction Huskies. How about Mackenzie Warner with the buzzer beater in the JV game? She's swinging as well but that big play didn't carry over to the varisty sqaud.

The varsity game was close throughout but eventually Delta would pull away from Lathrop in the second half with a 51-38 win in their opener.
