Gov. Sean Parnell threatens to sue if refuge lands aren't reopened

Due to the Government Shutdown, many of the federally funded refuges have been closed to Alaskans and people across the U.S.

Governor Sean Parnell said in a letter to the Interior Secretary Sally Jewel that the State of Alaska will sue the federal government if U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service do not reopen Federal refuge lands to Alaskans.

According to Sean Parnell's letter, Fish and Wildlife Service has until the end of the day today to open before the State proceeds with the suit.

He also said the refuge lands are important to the people of Alaska and their subsistence.
