Gould has good showing on FGA Amateur's opening day

FAIRBANKS, AK-Today was the first day of the FGA Amateur Championship. There were five flights in the men's division and three for the ladies at the Fairbanks Golf Course this morning. Adam Baxter was in the mix looking for his fifth straight Amateur title.

I was with a championship flight group that included Josh Osvold, Joseph Kim, Bruce Laiti, and Aaron Plentikoff one of the best drivers in Fairbanks. Plentikoff is in the second flight.
Kim though, did pretty good on their first hole. He had a nice shot to get out of the bunker, landing six feet from the hole to set up the birdie putt.

Here are your current leaders from this afternoon. Steve Gould led all golfers with a 76 in the championship flight. Connie Johnson had a 78 to lead the women. Steve Hallsten, Tony Graziadei and Bill Renfrow are tied for second with an opening round 81. In the men's first flight William Sunie and Ron Teel are tied at 82. Fran Westerfelt led the women's first flight with an 86.

The FGA Amateur Championship will continue at Chena Bend Golf Course tomorrow and ends at Northstar Golf Club on Sunday.
