Goldpanners put themselves in possible winning position

ANCHORAGE, AK-Last night the Alaska Goldpanners generated some momentum going into the last week of regular season ABL play. Coming off a 3-2 win over the Anchorage Bucs the Panners split a double header with the Chinooks.

Chugiak took the first game 3-1 and only allowed three hits. Alex Rubanowitz had a solo HR his fourth of the year to prevent the shutout. But Mikey Ramirez suffered his first loss of the year for the Panners.

In game two it flip flopped. Alaska allowed just two hits while going for 9 singles. Three players had two hits. Three Alaska pitchers and the defense were dialed in not allowing a run en route to a 2-0 shutout victory for the Goldpanners.

Now it all comes down to this. After 10 days on the road the Goldpanners will take on the Mat-Su Miners this Thursday at Growden Memorial Park for game one of the last series of the regular season.

This series will determine the regular season title. Alaska is 4-6 in their last 10 games but come back to Fairbanks with some momentum winning two of their last three on the road.

The Goldpanners are 19-12 and are a half game back of the first place Mat-Su Miners who are 19-11. The Miners could increase their lead with a win over the Glacier Pilots tonight.

The Anchorage Bucs could shake up the final standings if the Panners end up splitting the Miners series. The Bucs are only one and half games out of first and they play the last place Chinooks in a three game series this week.

But it's simple. If the Panners go for 4-0 or 3-1 in the series they'll win the ABL regular season title. The ABL Tournament starts on Monday the 29th.
