Goldpanners lose by one in season opener

ANCHORAGE-Tuesday Last night in Mulcahy stadium the Alaska Goldpanners had their first game of the 2014 season against the Anchorage Bucs.

It was scoreless after five innings but the Bucs Garrett Copeland out of Austin Peay would hit what would be the game winning rbi in the bottom of the sixth as the Bucs win 1-0. Anchorage native Mac Gridley playing for Western Oregon went 2-3 scoring the game winning run.

The Bucs had four hits and Alaska had three. Three Anchorage pitchers combined for the shutout.

Mike Benson led the four Panners pitchers with three Ks and walk in three innings of work.

The Goldpanners play the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Wednesday night in the second game of the summer season.
