FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Goldpanners will be moving on in their schedule after last night's game cancellation due to rain. Thursday night's game was supposed to be the opener of a four game series with the Lake Eerie Monarchs out of Michigan but that game will not be made up.

Tonight the Panners will get their first look at the Monarchs before playing them in the 109th Midnight Sun Baseball game on Saturday night.

The Monarchs are 3-5 and are coming off consecutive losses to the Anchorage Bucs. Lake Erie is in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League.

Alaska has won four of their last five in their first home series against the San Francisco Seals.

Designated Hitter Mike Wieland is pacing the Goldpanners hitting .385 which is fifth in the ABL. Jacob Hayes has the swing with three home runs which lead the league. He's also scored 10 runs. Catcher Eric Hutting leads Alaska with nine rbis.

On the mound Joel Belk has 14 strikeouts and two wins to lead the Panners while Mike Benson has a 1.00 ERA in nine innings of work-third in the ABL.

Also the Goldpannners have been playing with just nine position players but five more players should be on the roster by tonight's game as their roster continues to fill out with player arrivals.
