Goldpanners face Bucs in ABL Tournament opener

FAIRBANKS, AK-Tonight your ABL Champions. The Alaska Goldpanners will entertain a familiar opponent in their first game of the ABL Tournament. The Goldpanners and the Anchorage Bucs will lock horns again. The Panners and the Bucs were evenly matched in the regular season. The season series was tied at 4-4.

For the season the Panners led the league in home runs with 19 but the Bucs have given up 96 earned runs on the season. That's second best in the league.

There are led by pitcher Garret Mundell whose four wins are second to Nathan Bannister (6) of the Goldpanners. Mundell has the top ERA in the league at 0.76. But he'll face some of the best hitters in the league in David Edwards the homerun leader with five. Also Panners' designated hitter Casey Munoz is batting .315, fourth best in the ABL.

The ABL tournament is a round robin format that runs through Friday. The Kenai Peninsula Oilers elected to not participate. The game starts at 9 pm tonight at Mulcahy Stadium. The top two teams will battle it out on Saturday for the ABL tournament title.
