FAIRBANKS, AK-Last night at Growden Memorial Park the Goldpanners had their first home game of the season after a seven game road trip between California and Alaska to start the summer season. They faced the Fairbanks Brewers of the Fairbanks Adult Amateur Baseball League.
It was all Goldpanners in this one. The Panners had a 5-0 lead after four and then tack on four runs in the fifth led by second baseman David Edwards out of Loyola Marymount who went four for four including a double, triple, and two singles.
Defensively three pitchers saw the mound for the Panners, Cody Moffet, Nathan Bannister and Matt Milke who combined for a no hitter in a 10-0 romp of the Brewers.
The win stops a three game skid for the Goldpanners and now they have a six game home series with the San Francisco Seals all this week including the Midnight Sun Game on Friday night at 10:30 p.m.
Edwards and first year coach Bryan Harris talk about their first home game performance at Growden Memorial.
"A lot of time to get used to the field and pregame. I just came out, seen the ball pretty well and struck it pretty well, too. It's good to get back into it," Edwards said. "It's a good thing to get that win, start generating that winstreak again and hopefully it'll keep you going."
The Panners generating 11 hits but Harris believes his team can produce more.
"We pitch really well, play good defense, our hitting is still not clicking on all cylinders. We still wanna get the plays down, the hit-and-runs, the bunting and just have better bats up and down the order," Harris said. "Last thing, we need to work on is just confidence, just going up there knowing that you can perform well and have no doubts."
The Gold Panners are 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the ABL.
