The proposal to start a municipal natural gas distribution utility is getting its first look by the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly.
Once the assembly gets information on the project, they'll take public comment and vote on the plan at their next meeting, October 11.
The municipal utility is the collective idea of Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins, and a host of other local leaders hoping to truck natural gas to the Interior as well as provide distribution of natural gas to local distribution areas of the borough not served a private enterprise.
The North Pole City Council earlier this week passed an ordinance transferring utility power to the borough.
The Fairbanks city council will decide whether to do the same at its meeting next Monday.
