FAIRBANKS AK - The Alaska Works Partnership is starting up its annual winter/spring construction trades training. The classes being offered are entry level and will be free of charge. This program provides free training for adults to learn basic construction skills to prepare them for future training and employment.
“We offer these short courses in a way to kind of get them some more information about the construction trades to see if they want to pursue it further as a career,” said Alaska Works Partnership Instructor Wade Stark.
The basic trade courses being offered include Carpentry, Weatherization, Electrical, Painting/Taping, Hydronic Heating, and Welding. The application deadline for Carpentry is tomorrow (Thursday) by 4 p.m. All other applications will still be accepted until January 31st.
According to Stark there’s a need for younger workers in the trades because the current workers in the industry are coming up on retirement and they need to find some trained workers for the industry.
“There’s some new money coming in on the budget here for some upgrades in the military bases around the state, so quite a bit of construction on the horizon,” Stark noted.
