Fort Wainwright soldier fatally shot in Fairbanks

As we've reported from the beginning, Fairbanks police say they have arrested one Fort Wainwright soldier in the fatal shooting of another.

Detective Peyton Merideth says 21-year-old Joshua Corona was arrested Monday for investigation of second-degree murder in the weekend shooting at his Fairbanks apartment. Corona is an active duty soldier at Fort Wainwright.

The Army says a 19-year-old private, Jawuan Collins, was killed by a gunshot wound to the head early Sunday morning.

Merideth says there were three witnesses to the shooting, which involved a .45-caliber pistol. He says Corona and Collins knew each other through the military.

Collins joined the Army in January and arrived at Fort Wainwright in June. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.
