Former Lathrop Student dies in shooting in Anchorage


A former Lathrop High School student was shot and killed yesterday in Anchorage.

15-year-old Precious Alex died after an unknown gunman opened fire through a window of her apartment in the early morning hours yesterday.

According to authorities there were multiple witnesses to the incident yesterday, all of whom Anchorage Police had in custody following the shooting.

Family members of Precious say she was shot in her side after the bullets came through the basement windows.

Fairbanks North Star Borough School District confirmed to the Newscenter Precious was a student at Lathrop last fall.

An investigation into the incident is continuing.


Two suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting last evening.

Anchorage Police say 28-year-old Lamar Burney and 24-year-old Jamal Townsend face charges of first- and- second degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault in connection with the early Tuesday morning shooting.
