FAIRBANKS, Ak - The Alaska Stand Alone Project or A.S.A.P. is a proposed gas delivery pipeline from Prudhoe Bay down to Fairbanks and on down to South Central Alaska.
At the weekly Chamber of Commerce luncheon, former Alaska Governor Bill Sheffield told the audience that after forty years, it was time for the state to move forward with an in-state gasline.
Sheffield said that with proper investment the gasline could become a reality by the year 2019.
"We have an obvious and critical need for instate gas,” said Sheffield. “We have the means to finance the in-state pipeline, no matter the approach,” he said. “…And we have an obligation to our current and future generations of Alaskans, to make productive use of our resources."
