Flood condition update

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FAIRBANKS HAS EXTENDED THE FLOOD ADVISORY
FOR THE CHENA RIVER NEAR NORTH POLE UNTIL 515 PM AKDT TUESDAY

* MINOR FLOODING CONTINUES ALONG THE CHENA RIVER NEAR NORTH POLE. IN
THE STEAMBOAT LANDING SUBDIVISION SOME DRIVEWAYS ARE STILL COVERED
BY WATER. WATER LEVELS ON THE CHENA RIVER ARE NOW FALLING AND IT
IS EXPECTED THAT FLOODING WILL END BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. PONDED
WATER IN LOW LYING AREAS ALONG THE CHENA RIVER NEAR NORTH POLE
WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE WEEK HOWEVER. GROUND WATER WILL REMAIN
ELEVATED IN THE NORTH POLE AREA THROUGH THE WEEK AS WELL.

...CHENA RIVER IN FAIRBANKS REMAINS HIGH THROUGH TUESDAY...

THE CHENA RIVER IN DOWNTOWN FAIRBANKS IS AT 8.6 FEET AS OF 7PM
MONDAY. THIS IS DOWN FROM THE CREST OF 10.0 FT ON SATURDAY. THIS
HAS CAUSED LOW LYING BIKE PATHS...WALKWAYS AND YARDS ALONG THE
RIVER TO BE FLOODED. THE RIVER IS ONLY SEVERAL FEET BELOW THE
BARNETTE STREET BRIDGE MAKING IT IMPASSABLE TO BOATS AT THAT
LOCATION. THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT EROSION OF THE RIVER
BANK SO PEOPLE SHOULD USE CAUTION NEAR THE RIVER BANK.

THE CHENA RIVER IN FAIRBANKS IS EXPECTED TO DROP TUESDAY...
TO A RIVER GAGE HEIGHT OF 7.0 FT BY TUESDAY EVENING. THE
RIVER WILL REMAIN WELL ABOVE NORMAL NEAR THE 6 FT LEVEL THROUGH
MUCH OF THE WEEK HOWEVER. THIS EXTENDED PERIOD OF HIGH WATER WILL
CAUSE GROUND WATER TO REMAIN HIGH ALL WEEK AND COULD CAUSE WATER
TO SEEP INTO BASEMENTS AND CRAWL SPACES.
