Firefighters send even more crews to help in Lower 48 wildfires

More Alaska fire crews are headed to the Lower 48 to help battle wildfires in several western states.

The latest batch, five crews from St. Michael, Koyuk, Selawik , Shageluk and Scammon Bay, left Wednesday for Utah, where they will receive specific assignments.

Five other Alaska crews from Nondalton, Copper River, Venetie, Fort Yukon and Kenai left Monday to help fight a wildfire in Wyoming.

The Fontenelle Fire has burned more than 57,000 acres. More than 800 firefighters are working to contain the fire.
