Firefighters from Fairbanks and surrounding areas will leave this morning to help fight fires in Lower 48

With a great many wildfires dying down around Alaska, the same can't be said for the Lower 48.
Now officials are needing the assistance of Alaska firefighters.
Later this morning, a large group of smoke jumpers and other personnel from around Fairbanks and neighboring communities will fly down South to help with the wildland fires going on.
The News Center's Darryl Lewis was notified about the story late Sunday evening and will have more on the Fairbanks Evening News tonight.
