Festival of Trees

A new holiday festival is all set to transform a vacant downtown building into an indoor forest full of Christmas trees.
The 2013 Festival of Trees is set to kick off Friday night and last through the weekend.
The festival will feature Christmas trees from 50 different business sponsors.
The Festival of Trees is a fundraiser for the local Greater Fairbanks Area Habitat for Humanity.
All proceeds will benefit urgent homebuilding projects for underprivileged families in the Fairbanks community.Event coordinator Kara Nash says the Festival idea came through the Habitat for Humanity.""Habitat for Humanity approached me about doing a holiday fundraiser, and I had seen these done all across the country, and I thought it would be an event that Fairbanks would really adopt.
They have been sponsoring trees and people have been coming to support the cause by performing or vending and things like that. Jay Pruce Executive Director for the Habitat for Humanity in Fairbanks, says the event will be an opportunity to thank volunteers. Really it's just going to be an event that the community can enjoy.
And that's one of the things in my position as executive director that I really, really enjoy.
All the folks that come out and volunteer their time
And their effort to help our mission.
And this is a way to give back to the community and recognize all those volunteers
That have come out and helped us in our build season and throughout the entire year." In addition to music and talent at the event, Santa Claus will also be attending and available for pictures.
