Farmer's Loop structure fire displaces newlywed couple

FAIRBANKS, AK -- A newlywed soldier and his wife are homeless due to the structure fire that occurred off Farmer's Loop Road Tuesday evening.

Steese Area Volunteer Fire got the call around 2:40 p.m., responding to the area of 767 Air Park Drive, near Echo Acres.

A previous fire three weeks earlier inside a chicken coop at the site was a contributor to Tuesday's fire because cleanup efforts of the earlier fire resulted in lighting a stove inside the garage shelter, which ultimately caused the blaze.

No one was hurt in the fire; however an apartment inside the structure was a total loss.

Specialist Kyle West, of Bravo Company 124 Infantry and his wife, Aiden, were married just a month ago.

Now, the Wests have lost all their personal belongings due to the fire.

Efforts are on the way to help the couple.

The Polar Bear Chapter, Association of the United States Army is asking the community for help.

The Polar Bear Chapter is accepting monetary donations to support the West Family through a Special Projects Account at MAC Federal Credit Union, AUSA – West Family, routing #325280039.

The Chapter asks that monetary donations be contributed by January 6, 2013 at which time a check will be provided to the Family for the total amount donated.
