Fairbanks School Superintendent placed on administrative leave

The Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board has placed Superintendent Pete Lewis on administrative leave. According to a press release issued this (Monday) evening, the action did not result from any determination by the School Board of wrongdoing, and they say it is not a disciplinary action.
Dr. Karen Gaborik has been named interim Superintendent and has full authority to act on behalf of the district.

The release states that the School Board is confident school district operations will continue as usual.

The press release comes after a special meeting that was held by the board Monday night.  It was called as a closed executive session to discuss an ongoing personnel investigation and potential claims against the district, and to take personnel action  if necessary.  The original special meeting notice said there could possibly be an Executive Session with the borough attorney's office to discuss matters within the attorney-client privilege, including liability exposure, a candid discussion and assessment of the district's management of that exposure, and direction for investigation and handling of the matter.
