Late Wednesday Fairbanks Police released the name of the 12-year-old boy killed in the shooting at Birchwood Apartments. He has been identified as Malik Boykins of Fairbanks.

Police are still investigating the cause of the shooting but say that a second 12-year-old boy that was in the house apparently shot Boykins in the head.

City police and fire personnel were called to the Birchwood apartments just after 3:30 yesterday afternoon.

According to Police Lt. Dan Welbourn, Boykins did not live in the residence where he was shot.

The identity of the second 12-year-old boy involved remains unknown.
