Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks and Recreation closes the gate at Birch Hill due to Weather Conditions

FAIRBANKS, Ak - The Fairbanks North Star Borough Recreation program has locked the gates to Birch Hill until weather conditions return to normal temperatures.

The announcement was made today (Monday, January 14) in cooperation with the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks.

Officials are asking that cross-country skiers not ski at Birch Hill Recreation Area until the temperatures drop below freezing, the rain stops, and the conditions improve.

Closing the gates, officials say, will give the ski trails the best chance to stay intact until more snow begins to fall and the temperature drops.

The gated access road will reamin closed until conditions improve.  Borough officials will be monitoring the situation throughout the day and will make a decision later this (Monday) afternoon.
