Fairbanks man pleads not guilty in machete attack

FAIRBANKS- Not guilty pleas today for the Fairbanks man accused of attacking another man with a machete.

32-year-old Silfiano Lukas was originally charged with second degree felony assault in the attack; however, a Grand Jury later upgraded that charge to felony assault in the first degree.

An affidavit stated the attack occurred during an argument at a party inside Lukas' home on Linda Lane.

Troopers reportedly found Lukas in the woods outside the residence with blood covering his hands, face, and clothing, and a 24-inch machete hidden in his pant leg.

The victim was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with a large gash on his head.

Jury trial for his case is set for October.
