Fairbanks man charged with assault after machete attack

FAIRBANKS - A Fairbanks man has been charged with 2nd degree felony assault after allegedly hitting another man with a machete.

32–year–old Silfiano Lukas was arraigned July 18th on the charge after authorities say he hit the man subsequent to an argument at a party inside Lukas' residence on Linda Lane.

According to an affidavit, Troopers found Lukas in the woods outside the residence with blood covering his hands, face, and clothing.

Troopers later discovered the victim, John Durham, with a 4 inch cut above his right ear; part of his skull was exposed as well, and he was bleeding heavily.

A 24–inch machete was discovered inside Lukas' pants leg; he claimed he asked Durham to leave his residence, and after an argument, assaulted the man.

Lukas is due back in court later this month.
