Fairbanks club soccer team going for regional title in Hawaii

FAIRBANKS, AK-The boys under 13 Phoenix 01 squad will be traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii this week for the 2013 US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships for the first time. The Phoenix 01 team is coming off a championship performance in the Alaska Airlines Cup tournament in Anchorage in early June.

Now the young guns will face some great competition in Hawaii. Their first game is against Sparta 01. A team out of Utah who won their state cup championship.

Head coach Alan McGinty, Hutchison's girls soccer coach, has 15 years of coaching experience and is in his third year with the team. Phoenix 01 is excited about going to Hawaii and could make some noise and maybe even get the national stage. They have a good idea of when they're at they're best.

"Well when we're all communicating and we really, really play as a team and have possession," Aidan McGinty, Phoenix center mid-fielder said.
Jonah Henderson, Phoenix's goalie believes his defense has been playing well up to this point in the season.

"I think we have four really good backs. I think they, we have two really strong center backs, Nathan and Micheal. And then our outside backs Ethan and Gab are doing really well. So we have a pretty strong back," Henderson said.
Coach McGinty says it's up to his team to make it happen if they can play at a high level that he feels they're capable of.

"I think that if they play at the potential I know they can play at, that we can potentially win some games, score some goals and maybe advance to the quarterfinals," McGinty said.
