Fairbanks 49ers gear up for state tournament

FAIRBANKS, AK-Another local team is gearing up for their end of their summer season as well. The Fairbanks 49ers will be in the American Legion Baseball State Tournament tomorrow. The state tournament is double elimination and goes on for 7 days.

The 49ers open the tournament against Kenai Post 20 at 11 am in Mulchay Stadium. The 49ers are last seed with a 10-15 record.  Wasilla Post 25 is the top seed going 18-4 in league play and 22-7 overall. Juneau Post 35 is the two seed with 17 league wins. South Anchorage Post 4 is third and Chugiak Post 33 is fourth.

If the 49ers win they will play Juneau in the winner's bracket. The winner of the consolation bracket will get a shot at the title. If the consolation team wins they'll have an if-necessary game to determine the champion.
