Emergency Preparedness Month Begins

FAIRBANKS- This past summer was a shocking illustration of some of the potential disasters we face here in interior Alaska. Wildfires burned thousands of acres in Alaska forcing people along Chena Hot Springs to evacuate their homes. Even more tragic, hundreds of people were also displaced by the power of the Yukon river flooding, particularly the people of Galena.

Most of those affected by the fires and floods were probably not prepared for such events and local Emergency Responders say it's always best to have a plan and to know how to put that plan into action at a moment's notice. Emergency response groups will host a preparedness exposition the last weekend of September at the Carlson Center. Each Friday leading up to the expo we’ll share life saving strategies that you can do now to prepare for the unexpected.
