Business owners are breathing a sigh of relief in North Pole after the Air Force announced it would halt its plans to relocate an F-16 squadron away from Eielson Air Force Base.
A new decision expected in 2015, however, has the local community keeping a nervous eye on the decision-making in Washington.
Businessman Ed Richards says about 60 percent of his business comes from the military. The loss of airmen and their families would force him to cut staff and put in more of his own time to keep the business afloat.
It's hard to know exactly how a force reduction would affect the local economy. It would depend on variables including the number of people moved and the impact on civilian support jobs.
